Nothing Invasive, Nothing Secret

The questions in Akashic Registry are designed to capture the general picture of who you are — not to dig up secrets.

Examples of the kinds of questions you'll find:

What hobbies or activities do you enjoy most?

What is your proudest professional achievement?
What life lesson took you the longest to learn?

There are no questions about your finances, medical history, passwords, or anything you would consider truly private. The goal is to capture your personality, wisdom, and perspective — not your secrets.

Answer Only What You're Comfortable With

There are no required fields. Every single question is optional. You can skip any question with no consequence — skip one, skip ten, skip all of them in a category. Your registry is whatever you choose to make it.

Visibility

Two Layers of Privacy

When you create a registry, nothing is visible to anyone else. Not even the fact that your account exists. Your data sits encrypted in our storage and can only be decrypted by you.

The AI Clone feature is completely opt-in and protected by two separate gates:

Gate 1 — Publishing (your action)

You must manually navigate to the My Clone section
You must individually select which answers to include
You must explicitly click Save & Publish to make it discoverable
You can unpublish at any time — your clone is immediately removed from discovery

Gate 2 — Access approval (also your action)

Publishing only makes your clone appear in the Discover list — it does not open it to anyone
Each person who wants to talk to your clone must send you an access request
You review every request individually and approve or deny it
Only people you explicitly approve can start a conversation with your clone
You can revoke access from any approved user at any time

In short: publishing is like putting your name on a directory. Access is still locked behind your approval. No one reads your answers without your explicit, individual sign-off.

Zero-Knowledge Encryption

We Cannot Read Your Data — By Design

Your answers are encrypted in your browser using AES-256-GCM before they ever leave your device. The encryption key is derived from your password using PBKDF2. We only store the encrypted ciphertext — we never see your plaintext answers.

What this means in practice:

We cannot read your registry, even if we wanted to
A data breach at our infrastructure exposes only encrypted blobs, useless without your password
No employee, no system, no third party can access your unencrypted data
Your email is hashed before being used as a storage identifier — we store a fingerprint, not your email

Important — The Key Warning
Because your encryption key comes from your password, if you lose your password and your recovery phrase, your data is permanently unrecoverable. Not even we can get it back for you. This is the price of true zero-knowledge encryption — no backdoor means no backdoor, for anyone.

Please save your recovery phrase in a safe place when prompted after registration.

The Service

What Akashic Registry Is

Akashic Registry is a personal knowledge registry that lets you document your thoughts, experiences, and knowledge through guided questions, and optionally share an AI clone of yourself with selected people.

The service is provided as-is. We do not guarantee uninterrupted access or that the service will remain available indefinitely.

Your Account

You Are Responsible for Your Credentials

Your account is protected by a password and a recovery phrase. Because we use zero-knowledge encryption, we cannot recover your data if you lose both. Keep your recovery phrase in a safe place.

You are responsible for all activity under your account. Do not share your credentials with anyone.

Your Data

You Own Your Data

Everything you write in your registry belongs to you. We do not claim any rights to your content.

Because your data is encrypted client-side and we cannot read it, we cannot be held responsible for data loss resulting from a lost password or recovery phrase. We strongly recommend downloading a backup of your registry regularly using the export function.

Acceptable Use

What You Agree Not to Do

Impersonate another person in your registry or AI clone
Use the service to harass, threaten, or harm others
Attempt to access other users' encrypted data
Use the service for any illegal purpose
Publish a clone containing false information about another identifiable person

Termination

Deleting Your Account

You may stop using the service at any time. To delete your account and all associated data, contact us. Because your data is encrypted and only you can decrypt it, we will delete the encrypted file from our servers upon request.

We reserve the right to suspend accounts that violate these terms.
